PHYSICAL EDUCATION
At Ivy Chimneys Primary School we are passionate about Physical Education (P.E) and recognise the positive impact this has upon the mental health and the physical and emotional wellbeing of our children. We fully adhere to the aims of the national curriculum for physical education to ensure that all children:
-
develop competence to excel in a broad range of physical activities
-
are physically active for sustained periods of time
-
engage in competitive sports and activities
-
lead healthy, active lives
P.E. at Ivy Chimneys Primary School is taught as discrete lessons, as well as integrated where possible with other curriculum areas.
We teach lessons so that children:
-
experience fun and success in sport
-
have the opportunity to participate in P.E at their own level of development
-
secure and build on a range of skills
-
develop good sporting attitudes
-
understand basic rules
-
experience positive competition
-
learn in a safe environment
-
have a foundation for lifelong physical activity, leaving primary school as physically active.
Children here have access to a wide range of activities to support their health and fitness, including opportunities to compete in sport and other activities that help build character and embed values such as fairness and respect.
Through our sequences of lessons, numerous sports clubs, competitive sport and frequent visitors, we ensure that children have an enormous range of opportunities to develop their enjoyment and foster talent.
